Having grown up in rural Indiana, I have always found comfort in nature and open spaces.  I love hiking, camping, cycling, anything in the great outdoors.  This feeling of freedom was abruptly interrupted when I moved to Chicago for a summer internship in college.  While I loved the new experience and life of the city, I also struggled with the strangling nature of the urban jungle and longed for open spaces.

The design of this table symbolizes the experience I felt during my time in Chicago.  I was inspired by the structural architecture I observed in the city and admired the hard clean lines that make up the skyline.  The abundant use of steel and glass makes for a beautiful visual experience.  By contrast, I have always found beauty and comfort in the warmth of natural wood tones.  The table design features a graphic inlay of a photo I took in Sequoia National Park.  Its walnut and maple construction reflects my affinity for nature.

The contrasting nature of the design is what makes it so compelling.  It is clean and structural, using glass and steel, but also warm and inviting with the use of natural, local wood.  The contrast truly exemplifies my love for nature and fascination with structure.
