For Evansville Design Group's third annual Design Awards ceremony, I was invited to design the professional and student Best in Show award for the second consecutive year. EDG has a strong focus on bringing unity to the disciplines of design it supports. The annual awards are not judged by category, but by overall merit of good design.
With that in mind I set out to explore ideas on how to represent this through the Best in Show award design. The triangular base form is consistent with the 2013 award. The triangle is formed by six intersecting circles which represent the design disciplines represented in EDG. The triangular form transitions to a point at the top which symbolizes the unity of good design being produced by all disciplines in EDG.
The natural walnut base grounds the overall structure with visual and structural weight. The main body highlights the use of state-of-the art stereolithography technology and provides a clean backdrop for the winners' names to be the main focus. A water clear laser cut placard of acrylic is separated from the main body, bringing depth to the form and focus to the deserving winners.
